Akumal Bay Is Looking Beautiful And The Webcam Is Back

Akumal Bay Is Looking Pretty Good Today

We may have discovered the downside of showing Akumal Bay looking shockingly beautiful 24/7: apparently, you can break the internet.

Okay, maybe not quite.

Our Akumal Bay webcam feed was briefly offline today, Saturday, August 22, but our tech team moved quickly and the cameras are now back online and streaming live.

And judging by today’s view, it was a good day to get them back.

Back Online And Back To The Bay

For the many Akumal lovers who check in from around the world, you can once again take a live look at the beach, Caribbean water, weather and changing conditions throughout the day.

Think of it as your little window into Akumal—even when your actual window is hundreds or thousands of miles away.

A Little Full Disclosure About Sargassum

Summer is typically part of the higher sargassum season in the Mexican Caribbean, but that does not mean every beach is covered every day.

Reprieves like the one we’re enjoying in Akumal Bay are completely normal.

Sargassum moves with currents, winds and weather, which means conditions can change considerably from one day to the next—and even from one beach to another along the Riviera Maya coastline.

A beach experiencing significant accumulation today may look very different tomorrow, while another beach just a few miles away can be experiencing completely different conditions at the same time.

That variability is exactly why we like having a live camera.

See What Akumal Looks Like Right Now

Rather than relying solely on yesterday’s photos, reports from somewhere else along the coast or assumptions about the season, take a look for yourself.

Our webcam gives travelers, homeowners and longtime Akumal fans a real-time look at Akumal Bay as it is right now.

And after today’s brief technical interruption, we’re happy to report:

Akumal Bay is looking great. The webcam is back. And apparently the internet survived.
